Step 1: Choose the right shelving units for your space
What are you actually storing?
Start here, because everything else in this method depends on it. Are you storing paint tins and power tools in a garage? Cases of stock in a busy kitchen? Files and folders in a home office? Or pallets of goods in a full warehouse? The answer changes almost every decision that follows: from the material you choose to how many shelves you'll need.
Which environment are you storing it in? Material matters just as much as size.
For general commercial or workshop use, industrial shelving and metal shelving handle serious loads.
Cold room? Damp shed? Galvanised shelving resists the rust that would otherwise damage standard steel over time.
Running a commercial kitchen or a catering operation? Our HORECA range and chrome shelving are designed around ventilation and hygiene (the two things food service can't compromise on).
At home? Value shelving and plastic shelving give you a lighter option that's easier to put together. Home & office shelving is built to look tidy in a room people actually live in, and garage shelving is tough enough for real tools without the bulk of a full industrial system.

Step 2: Configure your shelving around how you work
How do you work out the right load rating?
Once you've picked a range, the details matter: span width, depth, how many levels and how much weight each shelf needs to hold. Get that last one right because it's the hardest mistake to undo once a shelf is loaded.
Shelf weight capacity is written as UDL (uniformly distributed load): the maximum weight a shelf carries when it's spread evenly across the surface. Drop that same weight in the middle of the shelf instead and the strain on the frame is far greater than the number on the label suggests.
Build in a margin. Don't specify right up to the limit and hope for the best.

What else should you configure before you order?
Beyond load, think about the extras. Wire mesh decking. Dividers. Parts bins. Shelf bins for smaller items. Adding them after delivery means a second order and reworking a layout you've already put together. Sort it now and you'll only set the shelving up once.
Step 3: Install with confidence
How fast can you get shelving delivered in Ireland?
We hold stock here in Ireland, so there's no waiting on a container from overseas. Order online or by phone before 3pm Monday to Thursday and it lands the next business day, anywhere in the Republic of Ireland. That's the gap between deciding on your shelving units and actually having them standing in your garage or your warehouse. A day, not a fortnight.
Do you need professional help setting it up?
For a single bay, you can usually manage the build yourself. Many of RackZone's ranges use a boltless design, put together with just a rubber mallet, no screws or bolts needed. For a full warehouse project that's a different story. Our team can visit your site and handle the whole setup for you, right across Ireland.
Whichever route you take, get the anchoring right and keep every unit within its rated load. The Health and Safety Authority requires that work equipment, including racking and shelving, is kept in good repair and safe working order and used within its rated capacity. That applies whether you're a homeowner with one bay or a warehouse manager with 50.
Step 4: Expand as your storage needs grow
How does modular shelving actually expand?
Storage needs are rarely static. Think of starter and extension bays like a mobile contract you can upgrade: you commit to what you need today, not what you might need in three years' time.
